The Cancer Centers at Lankenau, Bryn Mawr, and Paoli Hospitals within Main Line Health conduct screening, early detection, treatment and follow-up for patients diagnosed with breast, prostate, lung, colorectal and gynecologic cancers. In addition, expert care is available for melanoma, leukemias, lymphomas, and multiple myeloma. All three hospitals are jointly involved in national clinical cancer trials supported by the National Cancer Institute's Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) – one of only 50 such programs nationwide. The cancer programs at each hospital are accredited by the American College of Surgeons.

More than 80% of patients with cancer are diagnosed and treated in their local communities. In 1983, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) began the Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) so that these individuals could benefit from the latest developments in cancer research. Hospitals throughout the U.S. compete for federal NCI funded CCOPs. Starting in 1994, the combined cancer programs of the Main Line Health acute care hospitals have been part of this prestigious group.

In 2007, in a very competitive environment for federal funding support, the Main Line Health (MLH) CCOP received NCI re-approval of a 5-year award to continue its funding.

The MLH CCOP serves nearly one million people in an area extending from northwest Philadelphia into Montgomery, Delaware and Chester counties. Through this program, area residents have access to nationally recognized cancer prevention and cancer treatment clinical trials right in their own community.

The CCOP Executive Committee is composed of medical, surgical and radiation oncologists and other specialists with cancer expertise from the three hospitals. These physicians meet regularly and coordinate the clinical cancer research at the Lankenau, Bryn Mawr, and Paoli Hospitals.
