The Marks Colorectal Surgical Foundation and The Culshaw Colorectal Research Unit aim to drive development of original minimally invasive and preservative surgical techniques for treatment of colorectal disease and to educate surgeons in the use of these techniques. These techniques have been pioneered over a 30 year period by Gerald Marks MD and John Marks MD through the Rectal Cancer Management Program at The Lankenau Hospital, which has developed multiple specialities for rectal cancer treatment through preoperative irradiation and laparoscopic surgical techniques which preserve rectal sphincter function.
At the Lankenau Hospital and the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, the Foundation supports totally or in part the following programs:
- Fellowship in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery and Minimally Invasive
Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery of the Rectum (Recent Record)
- Multidisciplinary Rectal Cancer Research and Patient Management Program
- Comprehensive Rectal Cancer Center
- Video Library of Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures
- Operating Room Demonstration Preceptor Program
