Clinical Cancer Research

LIMR administers the Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) at Lankenau Cancer Center and it also interacts closely with the Marks Colorectal Surgical Foundation at The Lankenau Hospital.

The Lankenau CCOP was designated in 1994 by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as one of only 50 such programs nationwide. Numerous prevention and treatment research trials are coordinated cooperatively with major academic centers through this mechanism, which was ranked #5 among CCOPs nationally in the number of patients enrolled in Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) studies and #4 in the number of Sentinel Node Breast Biopsies performed.

Interactions between LIMR scientists and Cancer Center clinicians have focused on questions concerning cancer genetics, tumor stem cells, tumor-stromal relationships, and other questions. Lankenau is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Teaching Hospital Cancer Program, offering various conferences that promote education and interactions among basic researchers and clinicians on the Lankenau campus.
