Welcome to the website for the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research!
I invite you to browse our site to learn about the mission, faculty, and exciting research at LIMR.
Our mission is three-fold:
- To discover better ways to treat cancer, heart disease and other age-associated diseases;
- To leverage our discoveries for the benefit of the physicians and patients of Main Line Health and its communities; and
- To help educate the next generation of clinicians and biomedical researchers.
Each day, our scientists move closer to uncovering the root
causes of cancer and cardiovascular
disease. One emerging focus of our research is modifier
genes, a class of genes that influence disease susceptibility
and progression. Our work on this class of genes is a special
strength that may lead to deeper insights into how disease-free
longevity is achieved.

We aim to move our discoveries from the laboratory bench to the patient bedside. Toward that end, LIMR scientists partner with the outstanding physicians of Main Line Health, seeking to develop and support clinical research directions to improve human health and well-being.
LIMR offers a variety of education programs for high school and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, medical residents and fellows, and the lay community. If you are interested in the dynamic and enriching learning environment we offer, be sure to see our Education pages.
Check our website frequently to keep yourself up-to-date with the latest news, discoveries and technologies from our scientists. We are eager to have you as a Partner in Discovery to join our team, be sure to see our Support LIMR pages.
Sincerely,
George C. Prendergast, PhD Professor and President/CEO Lankenau Institute for Medical Research
