This one-day class is an alternative for couples who are unable to attend the three-week series due to time constraints or fluctuating schedules. The content is the same as the Prepared Childbirth series, but taught in an accelerated fashion.

If you are registering for a 3 week or One Day Prepared Childbirth Class, please do not register for a separate tour, as a tour is included in your class. The hospital tours are reserved for expectant couples. Other family members can visit you in maternity after the arrival of your new baby

You should bring 2 bed pillows to the class. There will be a break for lunch, but lunch is not included in the registration fee. You may bring a lunch or purchase something in the cafeteria.

When registering, please use the mother's name and date of birth.

Bariatric Informational Sessions

These are regularly scheduled information sessions designed to help patients learn more about bariatric weight loss solutions and the comprehensive Bariatric Program offered by Main Line Health. The information is presented by our Center of Excellence certified bariatric surgeon and our nurse coordinator. During the session you will learn more about the benefits, potential complications and qualification criteria for bariatric surgery. To find out more information and to learn if you may be a candidate, please sign up for an upcoming session.

Bryn Mawr Hospital Happiest Baby

This class, based on the book by Dr. Harvey Karp, will teach you to strengthen the bond with your baby for a happier, healthier, and more loving family. By activating the "claming reflex," you can soothe even the fussiest baby. Dr. Karp has found that his approach may help prevent breastfeeding failure, postpartum depression, exhaustion, marital stress, and even shaken syndrome. It also helps fathers become more involved with their baby's care and helps them feel more competent and secure.

The fee for the class includes a copy of the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD, a soothing sounds CD and a swaddling blanket. This class provides everything needed to make your baby the happiest baby on the block.

Expectant parents and parents of newborns up to 3 months of age are encouraged to attend.

Lankenau Hospital AARP 55 Alive Safe Driving Class

This is a refresher course on the knowledge and skills required for safe driving. It meets on 2 days, for 4 hours each day. Topics will include:
Defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road.
Adjusting your driving to compensate for age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.
How to handle problem situations such as turning left, yielding right-of-way, avoiding trucks, identifying blind spots and driving safely on highways.
There is a fee of $14 for this class (or $12 for AARP members), which will be collected by the instructor on the first day. Most insurance companies will give a 5% discount after completion of this course. Consult your insurance company to confirm that they offer this discount.

There will be a break for lunch. No road test or written test will be given.

Celiac Center: Kick Off Event

Join us for a fun and informative St. Patrick's Day themed evening to launch of the Celiac Center at Paoli Hospital. As Medical Director of Paoli's new Celiac Center, Keith Laskin, MD will provide a brief introduction to the Center, including its mission, experienced staff, and multiple services, as well as the evening's keynote speaker, Alessio Fasano, MD. Dr. Fasano, a nationally recognized expert in celiac disease research from the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research, will provide an overview of the disease, as well as current research initiatives. After, a panel discussion featuring Dr. Fasano and registered dietitian Nancy Patin Falini, RD, LDN and moderated by Dr. Laskin, will give attendees the opportunity to submit their questions about celiac disease and research.

Attendees will have the chance to sample and enjoy gluten-free foods from local and national vendors, along with a wee bit of Irish entertainment in celebration of the holiday. Educational materials about the Celiac Center and celiac disease in general will also be available.

Breast Surgery Class

This class will provide a step-by-step overview of what to expect when undergoing breast surgery, from the day before the procedure to your discharge. You will be given a tour of the hospital and will have an opportunity to ask questions of the post-op nurses. Patients are encouraged to bring their significant other.

This class takes place on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at Bryn Mawr Hospital.

This one-session class for children focuses on the role of the big brother or sister and includes a tour of the nursery and maternity unit.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. For children between three and seven years old.

Children must have had the chicken pox or been vaccinated before attending the tour of the maternity unit.

Bryn Mawr Hospital Advanced Comfort Measures

This interactive 2 hour class will discuss comfort measures beyond the breathing and relaxation techniques that are taught during the regular Prepared Childbirth classes. . Topics to be discussed and practiced will include birth balls, massage and pressure points, hot and cold therapies, and additional positions and non-medical techniques for comfort and aiding in the progression of labor and birth. Class participants are encouraged to bring 2 bed pillows, a hand or bath towel and a birth ball to class. This class is in addition to the basics taught during Prepared Childbirth classes. Completion at a traditional Prepared Childbirth Series or One Day Class or having given birth within the last 5 years is a pre-requisite to attending this class. Basic breathing and relaxation techniques are not taught during this class. Fee: $35 per couple
