Lankenau Institute Researcher Elected to Board of the Society of Biomolecular Sciences

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Melvin Reichman, Ph.D., Director of the LIMR Chemical Genomics Center (LCGC) at the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research (LIMR) was elected by members worldwide to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS). His service will begin on April 12, 2010.

SBS is the only non-profit international scientific society in the world that is dedicated to drug discovery and its associated disciplines. Dr. Reichman was an early founder of SBS while Head of Drug Discovery at Berlex/Schering AG. In his new role as director, he will provide vision and leadership for drug discovery sciences and practices as a delegate representing academic research communities, providing a unique perspective that includes an 18-year tenure in the pharmaceutical industry. With early drug discovery activities becoming increasingly significant in academia in recent years, Dr. Reichman’s election will engender new opportunities in the field from a platform highly visible in both academia and industry.

Dr. Reichman joined the Lankenau Institute and created LCGC in 2007. Prior to coming to LIMR, he was the principal at Pharmacophore Discovery Consulting LLC. He received his B.S. in Psychology and Chemistry from City University of New York and his Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology from the University of Rochester, Center for Brain Research.

About the Society for Biomolecular Sciences

The Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS), the only international non-profit scientific society dedicated to drug discovery and its related disciplines. It was founded in 1994 to provide a forum for global education and information exchange among professionals in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotech, and agrochemical industries. Its mission is to advance the science and technology of drug discovery by providing a forum for education and information exchange among professionals around the world. The society's membership includes leading innovators, inventors, scientists, researchers, and drug developers from more than 30 countries, 400 companies, and 40 universities. The society publishes a peer-reviewed journal, the Journal of Biomolecular Screening.

About the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research

Founded in 1927, the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research (LIMR) is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research center located in suburban Philadelphia on the campus of the Lankenau Hospital. Part of Main Line Health, LIMR is one of the few freestanding, hospital-associated medical research centers in the nation. The faculty and staff at the Institute are dedicated to advancing an understanding of the causes of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. They use this information to help improve diagnosis and treatment of these diseases as well as find ways to prevent them. They are also committed to extending the boundaries of human health and well-being through technology transfer and the training of the next generation of scientists and physicians.
